We met with Roman Levy, the CEO of Urban Place for a very interesting talk about the industry and more. Roman has been in business for 5 years in Israel and we asked him our favorite questions:
How long have you been in the industry?
Roman: "I started as a lawyer in Paris working on real estate deals and learning about real estate financing. Then, when I made Aliya to Israel, I converted my law degree, but instead of pursuing law I felt the need to help the growing startup ecosystem in Israel.
That was close to 5 years ago and when we as a team started considering opening our first Urban Place coworking space location in tel Aviv, Israel."

What motivates you to get up and continue what you do today?
Roman: "Our community members motivate me to get to work on to keep on growing. With every startup that I meet and that joins Urban Place, I feel like I am a part of their team- providing them the resources they need to grow.
Being CEO of a coworking space is like being CEO of hundreds of companies trying to build something bigger than just space. Working with the companies to help them network, introduce them to investors, and be there as a consultant keeps me motivated every day."
What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
Roman: "Our goal today is to be one of the top coworking spaces in Israel.
With our current pace, we’re getting close to becoming the #2 coworking space in Israel after the international giants. We do this by focusing and investing in our members and by helping them grow their startup."
Where are you today in life/business and where you want to be?
Roman: "I always see myself working here and growing Urban Place to fulfil its potential. Israel is the land of miracles- how such a young country is one of the world leaders in innovation and entrepreneurship is one of the more apparent successes of Israel in recent years.
In Israel, we work as a community, and when others succeed we learn from them, grow with them, and are proud of them instead of feeling jealous about them. The longer-term plan is to continue growing across Israel, and then ultimately to expand into Europe and the US".
What seems to be the business problem or challenges that you have today? what keeps you awake at night?
Roman: "What keeps me awake at night are my kids! I have 4 of them and I love them :)"
How did you pick your brand name?
Roman: "It started with the initials U.P- from the idea that we are building a brand to help build our companies ‘UP’. From there we realised the philosophy we most connected to was offices with an ‘Urban’ lifestyle feel. But it’s more than just a lifestyle- it’s a philosophy and a way of life that can be felt and experienced in any of our Urban Place locations. From there, just like the Niko logo is always pointing/trending upwards, so too with Urban Place/UP, our goal is to always continue to move and trend upward".
How do your members find you today?
Roman: "They come to us! We just help them settle in."
